Ipomoea hederifolia Pumpkin is an annual/perennial vine in the Convolvulaceae family. Its native range is the Tropical and Subtropical Americas. It grows naturally in disturbed areas, alongside roadways, in scrub brush, and along fences. A delicate morning glory perfect for adding to larger containers for accent colors. It can be grown up in a trellis or mailbox for a unique look. It can grow to around 10 feet long but may re-seed and grow out larger. The leaves are heart-shaped, smooth, large, approximately 6-8 inches wide and long. The small pumpkin flowers are so cute, around one inch long and 1/4″ wide bloom during the Summer into the fall. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with average water needs. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are attracted to it. Zones 5-9 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil, tamp in, and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-60 days.
