Offered here is a large b/w German cigarette card of the record-setting black American track and field star, Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The picture was issued in 1936 by the Reemtsma Cigarette Co. for the Volume II of the album Olympiade 1936 (The Olympic Games of 1936). The text on the top back of the picture reads: “In the second heat of the 100-meter preliminaries Jesse Owens ran his 10.2 second world record (which was not officially recognized).” [The remaining text on the back is advertising for the albums into which the picture cards could be affixed.] The picture measures 4 and ¾ inches by 3 and 1/8 inches.
