Known commonly as the showy milkweed but also Showy Butterfly Weed, Creek Milkweed, and Greek Milkweed. A native in the Western half of North America. A strong but sparingly branched perennial that grows to 3 feet tall and maybe 2 feet wide. These have large oval blue-green leaves that stand out right away. Then the showy rose-colored flowers displayed on a spherical cluster. The flowers are on the top of the stem and also on the stalks from leaf axils. A Monarch plant that can grow in part shade and full sun. It can grow in most soils with adequate drainage. Zones 3-9 Germination Mix seeds and soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name of the seed on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days. Seed should be sown into well-drained, sandy compost and covered to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in filtered light and keep moist. Seeds germinate very slowly and may take more than a year to germinate.
