These are truly ancient handles, good for a door or a cabinet. From 17th or 18th century, per the old man that sold them to me. Collected in Innsbruck, Austria, maybe 40 years ago. May have been made in Italy, again per the seller. The socket is 8 mm (would fit 5\16 inch square), made of brass. The wooden portion is dark and very hard, maybe ebony, but can’t tell for sure.
