Six images of this book, which is about 135-years old, are shown below; it is the facsimile of Lewis Carroll’s illustrated manuscript from which Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was created. This book is: Alice’s Adventures Under Ground, Written and Illustrated by Lewis Carroll, Published in London by Macmillan, circa 1888. The book measures 7 1/2″ x 5″ and is 96 pages plus two pages of advertisements. It is in Very Good condition with a former-owner’s bookplate on the front endpaper and with the same bookplate upside down on the rear endpaper. A faded name and “Jan. 08.” are on the front endpaper. The front interior hinge netting is visible along the endpapers and much less-so along the rear endpapers. There is some fading and wear to the binding, and there is some gentle overall wear. This book was first-published in 1886. The “newest” Lewis Carroll book (i.e., Sylvie and Bruno) listed on the dust jacket’s rear panel (i.e., please see image #2 below) was published in 1889. Thus, the book offered here, which has white endpapers and all page edges gilt, was published between 1886-1889. As stated on the title page (image #4 below), there are “thirty-seven illustrations by the author” (e.g., images #5 and #6 below). The dust jacket (images #1 and #2 below) is not price-clipped (price, on the spine “5/- net”) and is in protective mylar; it is in Very Good condition with 5/8″ lacking at the top of the spine, and with some soiling, rubbing and wear.
