KM 310, three year type, issued for the line of Pfalz which had inherited the electoral right (under Pfalz-Sulzbach), as part of the German Empire. Dime size billon coin, with the coat of arms on the obverse. Records of the Counts Palatine serving as Electors go back to at least 1261. The power of the Counts Palatine climaxed when the Count was crowned King of Bohemia in 1619, which triggered the Thirty Years’ War. The lands were further ravaged by a series of wars including the Nine Years’ War that ended in 1697. It was ruled in a personal union with the Elector of Bavaria from 1777 until it was dissolved in 1803. An Elector had the right to vote in the election for a new Holy Roman Emperor. The right passed through various lines of the Pfalz ruling family, and was in the line of Pfalz-Sulzbach at this time. Some catalogs list this coin under Pfalz-Sulzbach, and some list it under Electoral Pfalz (Chur Pfalz).
