ABOUT THE ARTIST: Kokin Mikhailo Olexandrovych an outstanding Soviet Ukrainian painter. People’s Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. Master of landscape, still life, excellent portrait painter. He brightly showed himself in the creation of a number of subject-thematic paintings, industrial landscapes (creative trips to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a series of works “Kamchatka Territory”), a series of portraits of leading workers and shock workers of Communist labor, his Crimean seascapes are impeccable and irresistible. The master’s works are distinguished by an excellent and carefully thought-out composition, a special author’s artistic style, magnificent coloring and amazing expressiveness. Kokin Mikhail Aleksandrovich was born on July 16, 1921 in the city of Dnepropetrovsk. Mikhail Alexandrovich is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, awarded the Orders of the Great Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Star, and many medals. In 1936–1941 and after the end of the war he studied at the Dnepropetrovsk Art School, which he graduated in 1947 in the class of an excellent teacher, student of I.E. Repin, M.N. Panin. In 1954 he graduated from the Kyiv State Art Institute, where his teachers were G.S. Melikhov S.A. Grigoriev and V.N. Kostecki. He took part in regional exhibitions since 1947, republican – since 1957. Since 1958, Mikhail Alexandrovich Kokin has become a member of the National Union of Artists. From 1965 to 1987 worked as the chief artist of the Dnepropetrovsk art and production plant. In 1976 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, and in 2001 – People’s Artist of Ukraine. Works are presented in the art museums of Dnepropetrovsk, Kyiv, Chernigov, Donetsk, Kamenetz-Podolsk, Nikolaev, Zhytomyr, Sevastopol, Kherson, T.G. Shevchenko in Kanev, private collections in many countries of the world. Passed away in 2009 .
