This is the “square” form with the player disc and border as originally in the boxed game in one large fold-up sheet. The disc and square are only attached at four points and this fragile nature means that these points, between the disc and square portion, are often already found separated when the full sheet is removed from the game set box. While there had been Cadaco game sets for many years this is the first issue with pictures of the players. The Beckett Almanac, which checklists these unnumbered cards alphabetically, lists similar 62 player sets for 1989, 1991 and 1993. Beckett DOES NOT note the variation sets of 1989 or the 1990 issue either. The two 1989 versions, which both have copyright ‘MLBPA 1988’ on card fronts, can be distinguished by the inclusion of the league and team on the BACKS of the first or “A” version, as I call it while on the later second “B” version the team and league lines have been removed. Discs from 1990, 1991 and 1993 are like the 1989 “B” version, WITHOUT the league and team entries on the BACKS. Additionally, there are errors in the 1989 “A” set including the wrong picture for #32 Barry Larkin (actually teammate Terry McGriff) the misspelling of #20 Julio Franco’s last name, (as Franko) as well as misspellings for Clemens and McGwire. The mistakes were corrected on the “B” disc versions. Cadaco mostly used the same pictures year to year although players that were traded get new pics. Sets include several long retired Hall of Famers. As they don’t have recent year stats, it’s difficult to tell HOF player discs apart by year except for the copyright info. While the ’89 sets have ‘1988’ on their fronts, the ’90 and ’91 sets have the same year copyright dates.
