Up for your consideration this absolutely gorgeous Pair of Doves – Vintage 1960s Murano Glass figurines by Salviati, Italy. Birds are in very good vintage condition, but base one of them chipped – please see last photo. Issue not visible from any view, unless you turn bird upside down and look for it. They measure approximately 4″ X 5″ at the bottom, one of them 8¾” tall and another just little smaller. Sommerso pale yellow Murano Art Glass formed (hand blown) into organic shapes and overlaid in crystal clear glass, decorated with pure silver and gold leaf flecks on a crystal clear glass base and adorned with black eyes and beaks. This pair is a true piece of art, beautiful and unique. They can make a great addition to any collection or add a charming touch to any interior. Sommerso is a glass making technique that creates the appearance of multiple layers of glass with contrasting colors inside a single object. The word “sommerso” is Italian for “submerged”. Antonio Da Ross, a Venetian glassmaker, developed the sommerso technique in Murano in the 1930s. Other artists who popularized the technique include Flavio Poli, the Mandruzzato family, and Paolo Venini. A Salviati family were glass makers and mosaicists in Murano, Venice. Since 1859, Salviati has united design with innovation and craftsmanship, looking at Murano glass in a more contemporary way producing avantgarde ideas that nonetheless respect tradition with attention to detail, and which are of a timeless unicity. The story of Salviati continues in the modern era, keeping the focus on creating an innovative style that had distinguished it since its inception. Participation in international exhibitions increased, such as the Venice Biennials from 1958 to 1972 (the final year in which Murano glass was allowed) thanks to projects by designers of the calibre of Betha and Teff Sarasin, Claire Falkestein, and Luciano Gaspari. Other than еру problem mentioned above I found no other condition issues with these figurines (one of them in excellent condition), but signs of previous use and ownership should be expected consistent with its vintage timeline and should be taken into consideration with age and ownership. Please note: I will accept any reasonable offer. Please check out all of the pictures and thank you for watching.
