Thunbergia grandiflora is a perennial vine in the Acanthaceae family. Its native range is Central Nepal to S. China and Peninsula Malaysia. Familiar names include Bengal clockvine, Bengal trumpet, blue skyflower, blue thunbergia, blue trumpetvine, clockvine, skyflower, and skyvine. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. It can grow to around 60 feet along a fence from a tap root. The opposite leaves are rough to the touch and vary in size. The margins are toothed along the lobed leaves. The flowers are 3-8 inches long and 1-4 inches wide. It prefers to grow in full sun with average water needs. This vine can only handle temperatures of 35F. Zones 8-11 Soak seeds overnight. Sow seeds 1/4″ deep and lightly cover with a medium. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic but maintain a temperature around 65-75F. Germination 7-30 days.
