Third Michigan Infantry KIA 1862 Letter Description Third Michigan Infantry July 21, 1862 3 page ink l etter from Henry P. Beckwith, who would soon be killed at Groveton, Va. a little over a month later. Written to “Catherine” (aka “Kate”). Nice personal letter, Beckwith tells her that those who are “…cutting around in gay style…” to enjoy it because “…will be lots of them killed in the war…” Wear as shown, comes with original postal cover. Henry P. Beckwith Residence Grand Rapids, MI ; 19 years old. Enlisted on 5/13/1861 at Grand Rapids, MI as a Priv. On 6/10/1861, he mustered into “K” Co. Michigan 3rd Infantry .
