Stefan Alexandres is a Florida-based artist born in Athens, Greece, who creates contemporary metal sculptures and architectural metalwork. In 1964 he began an 8 year apprenticeship for metal arts in the traditional ways of the old world, as he was guided through the organized guilds of Greece. This training was grounded in the traditional Byzantine instrumental arts and worked with the most elemental of metals, iron, copper, brass and silver. He learned repousse, sculpting, drawing and painting. Stefan’s early work, in the manner of historical and inventive images, underscores his current exploration in repousse, patination and mixed media sculptures. To find his new artistic direction, thru traditional application process, is a fundamental evolution. Without a formal training his work reflects dedication for the art of repousse and a self taught identity. Combining traditional embossing tools and innovative original expressions, it is a crucial vehicle that permits him as an artist, to pursue and explore endless possibilities. Through the ancient Art of Repoussé and that of story telling, both are living legacies revealed in the current art work of Stefan Alexandres and Aesop’s Fables featured in the adapted and interpretive works of All Ears Media.
