Staffordshire style figurine of a courting couple discretely hidden under a bower.A little over 9.50 inches high, and about 9 inches wide. The bower area has applied decoration to represent foliage, whilst the couple have painted faces, outfits, and details. Please note in photos, there are a few areas where the painted areas have chipped or flaking paint: the hair on both of them, his shoes and her cape as well as flaking around part of the bower area. In doing some research, I found that many feel it is a depiction of Romeo and Juliet. His outfit doesn’t quite look British to me, but I don’t know. I understand that these have been made for many years, and while it does have age, I can’t help but feel it was made later as a reproduction as these were very popular for tourists to bring home as a souvenir of traveling. I literally put it under a glass dome for a while when the clock was being repaired. The dome gave it a certain amount of elegance. Please refer to the photos as they are part of the description.
