Pope Innocent X, born Giovanni Battista Pamphilj, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 15 September 1644 to his death in January 1655. ~~~~ This original period, folio-sized, copperplate engraving of an antique statue is from Domenico de Rossi’s work Raccolta de Statue Antiche e Moderne Data in Luce sotto I Gloriose Auspici della Santita di N. S. Papa Clemente XI . Published in Rome in 1704 by Domenico de Rossi (1647-1729). Printed on laid paper by Gaetano Zenobi ( fl. 1689-1721). From original illustration by Italian artist Pavolo Alessando Maffei (1653-1716).
