Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified in all stainless steel, reference 17000 made in 1980. The watch is the answer Rolex had for the new quartz watches flooding the market at the time. The Oysterquartz wasn’t just a common quartz watch, it consisted of mechanical parts in the movement as well. This watch has a silver dial with applied non-numeric hour markers, an outer minute track and aperture for the date at 3. The watch also has luminous, baton style hands with a ticking second hand that stands out for not being common in a Rolex wristwatch. The case and bracelet are unique to this specific model, at times resembling a Royal Oak from AP more than a Rolex. The watch case is 36 mm. and has a nice smooth bezel and a classic screw-in Rolex crown. The watch is powered by the Rolex movement caliber 5035 with 11 jewels, a movement that at that time was more accurate than any other Rolex automatic movement. This is a very classic and collectible Rolex Oysterquartz in really good condition. Besides a big scuff on one of the lugs, the watch is in really good shape for being from 1980! The watch is also keeping excellent time and has a one-year warranty on the functionality of the movement. The Oysterquartz model was only produced for 25 years and its estimated Rolex produced only about 25,000 of these quartz watches.
