ROSENTHAL 1956 Christmas Plate Christmas in the Alps is the title of the 1956 Rosenthal Christmas Plate. It features a winter scene in the Alps, with two small houses nestled among the snow drifts and evergreens, with the high peaks of the mountains dominating the background. Hand painted (“Handgemalt”) under the glaze. The plate is banded with gold and bears the inscription “WEIHNACTEN 1956” (Christmas 1956). Porcelain, 8.5 inch diameter, pierced foot for hanging wire. Signed “Rosenthal, GERMANY”. Artwork by Willi Hein. This is the 47th plate in the Rosenthal Christmas series, which began in 1910 and is one of the most beautiful and highest quality Christmas series ever produced.
