A BEAUTIFUL AJAX BUST FROM ROMAN BRONZE WORKS NY COMPANY. – From a collector – Large Beautiful bronze bust with beautiful patina representing helmeted Ajax decorated with Centaurs, mermaids and fantastic birds, grandson of Zeus. This bust rests on a circular base and a custom-made marble rectangular base. This bust has retained all its very beautiful original patina and a rare collection, hard to find a bronze bust like it from Roman Bronze Works NY. – In very good used for long time collection. Established in 1897 by Riccardo Bertelli, it was the first American foundry to specialize in the lost-wax casting method, [ 1 ] and was the country’s pre-eminent art foundry during the American Renaissance (ca. 1876-1917). Long a sub-contractor to Louis Comfort Tiffany ‘s Tiffany Studios , the foundry moved in 1927 to Tiffany’s red brick factory in Corona, Queens , New York. [ 5 ] The General Bronze Corporation purchased the Roman Bronze Works in 1928.
