This kit is designed for making a really nice 2.5 all grain whiskey wash, using our grains (specifically grown, malted, and kilned for use in brewing) OR a 5 gallon Moonshine wash when using your addition of 5lbs (or more) of white sugar The grain weight in total sent to you is 5 pounds. This will get you a superb wash full of sugars for the yeasties to make a potent brew for distilling. Additionally, The same corn mash can be used over again by adding more sugar and yeast . This kit has 5 pounds of grains, not 3 or 4 like some kits. Buyer beware- many sellers offer “sweet feed” for brewing- “sweet feed” is nothing more than food for stock animals that often contains sulfur compounds, minerals, hormones, antibiotics, salts, and preservatives- NOT good things to be brewing with or drinking. We strongly encourage you to avoid “sweet feed” blends. Also, some seller sell 8lbs for 5 gallon mashes- be sure to compare! Our blend has three grains: 80% Organic Lincoln County cracked Corn (4lbs.) 10% Organic Malted Rye (1/2 lb.) 10% Organic Malted 6-row Barley (1/2 lb.) The grains are milled the day they are ordered/ shipped, and each grain type is packaged individually- not mixed together, so you really can see & smell the quality. This is the standard used by notables such as Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam , and our neighbor, Jack Daniel. Our blend of grains made specifically for brewing don’t need amylase enzyme additives like some of the others products on ebay, because the malting process causes the enzyme to be naturally added by the malted grains when heated. Using partial grain / sugar recipe will result in a decent smooth whiskey (or bourbon if aged in charred oak). Of course, whiskey makers don’t actually use sugar in their recipes, so don’t expect Pappy Van Winkle.
