Orel Hershiser #29B 1989 Cadaco Square Item is Near Mint or better SAMPLES from this set in the scan. BUT the SINGLE NAMED PLAYER ONLY, from a set of 62. Approximate size is 3-3/4 x 3-3/4. This is the “square” form, including the player disc and border as it was originally included in the boxed game, in one large foldable sheet. The fragile nature of the perforated discs in the “squares”, which are actually only attached at 4 points, means that some attached points between the disc and square portion may be separated. While there had been Cadaco game sets for many years, utilizing discs with named player data (border #’s), this is the first issue that had pictures of the players. The Beckett Almanac, which checklists these unnumbered cards alphabetically, shows similar yellow background 62 player sets for 1989, 1991 and 1993. It DOES NOT note the variation sets of 1989 or the 1990 issue. So Beckett recognizes three sets and counting the 1989 variation, I now know of five. It would be interesting if anyone has a 1992 set, which should have stats on back through 1991. The two versions of 1989, with copyright MLBPA 1988 on card fronts, are distinguished by the inclusion of the league and team on the BACKS of the first or “A” version, as I will call it. On the second “B” version the team and league lines have been removed. The cards from the other years are like the 1989 “B” version, without these league and team entries on the BACKS. Additionally, there were errors in the “A” versions including the wrong picture for #32 Barry Larkin (actually teammate Terry McGriff) and the misspelling of #20 Julio Franco’s last name, (as Franko). These were corrected on the “B” versions. Cadaco mostly used the same pictures from year to year. Players that were traded would have new pics. Some retired Hall of Famers were also included in these sets and without recent year stats, it is difficult to tell these players’ cards apart except for the noted copyright info. As mentioned, the ’89 sets have ‘1988’ on the fronts. The ’90 and ’91 sets have the same year copyright dates and the ’93 set has no date noted. The MLBPA logo on the fronts has a red background for all sets except the 1993 issue which has the logo in black. Combined Shipping on multiple purchases. PLEASE don’t pay one at a time.
