In 1872, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that bounty hunters were a part of the law enforcement system. However they were basically a free agent and not held to the rules of due process and state lines as lawmen were. Some famous Bounty Hunters were Charlie Siringo, a Pinkerton Detective, and The Dunn brothers who brought in Charley Pierce and George “Bitter Creek” Newcomb, members of the Doolin-Dalton Gang.
