Emanations are premium playing cards drawn & designed by Mahdi The Magician for his unique style of magic, cardistry, & card manipulation. Who are we? Mahdi Gilbert performs wonders without hands and walks the Earth without feet and is a walking miracle to everyone he meets. After giving up drawing in his adolescence to pursue magic Mahdi has turned back to illustration so he could create his first deck of playing cards, Hidden Leaves, which were successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2018. Emanations is his second deck of playing cards and also the name of a project in which he intends to explore early magic. Destino is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator specialize in branding, playing cards design, packaging design, and logotype maker. With his own unique monoline style, he strives to create clean, elegant, and sophisticated design. He has worked with various clients all over the world including the most famous fashion brand in the world. In the magic industry, Destino has worked alongside many famous magicians including Paul Harris, Damien O’Brien, Joao Miranda, and more to create a breathtaking design for their project. TIMELESS ELEGANCE Every single card in Emanations playing cards has been drawn by Mahdi instinctively to awaken the primitive in all of us. Crafted with care, this deck is inspired by & a homage to Charles T. Jordan & Goodall. The ink on playing cards used to be pressed onto the uncut sheets one color at a time resulting in every single deck looking completely unique due to the discrepancies and bleeding of the ink. I recreated this vintage aesthetic by making everything purposely imperfect. Printers used to use different plates for individual colors and to save money they would limit themselves to only two colors, red and black for the faces. I fell in love with this style, using your restrictions and limitations to create more powerful art. SOURCE OF MAGIC “Card effects are the poetry of magic! Without poetry, no poet! Without card magic there is no such thing as a magician, even if he could do real magic.” – Hofzinser in correspondence dated March 15th, 1872 to Carl von Pospischil (Published 1942 in Zauberkünste by Ottokar Fischer) In his legendary salon, Hofzinser would host an An Hour of Deception in which he would tie his miracles to the lives of enchanted audiences. Presentations like Everywhere & Nowhere , Sympathy , & The Power of Faith brought the inner world of cards to life . Many of Hofzinser’s finest deceptions were only possible because of the playing cards of the era. Emanations playing cards feature no indexes just like playing cards used to be made. This unique feature allows you to explore all sorts of forgotten card transformations , hypnotize your audiences with hallucinations of duplicates , renders well-known prearranged stacks completely invisible (even to magicians). ONE The Fusion Plot has been totally redesigned and restructured from the ground up by Mahdi. No detail was considered too small or trivial when pursuing the high standards we aim to achieve. The cards are made from the same Premium Bee Stock used in world class casinos for durability & flexibility so that they can be used for superior and fine card manipulation by card experts worldwide. This is a rare workhorse in the playing card industry. INSPIRATION Charles T. Jordan Charles T. Jordan (October 1st, 1888 – April 24th, 1944) was a prolific creator of magic. His monogram, CTJ would appear in his writings and at first I had no idea it was a monogram. I just assumed it was an art deco style mask or face. Emanations is a study of early magic that was spread around the pre-civilized world and I loved the idea of using an art deco style tribal mask in my artwork. I then remembered Charles T. Jordan’s books and realized what I saw as a mask was really 3 letters. Emanations is a project where we explore the evidence of the unknown so I thought it only appropriate to appropriate something that I saw that wasn’t actually there. Charles T. Jordan’s Monogram Goodall I love finding old playing cards and one of my favorite companies is Goodall. They produced some of the most artistic playing cards of their time and have inspired many trends, icons, and motifs you see in standard playing cards today. My court cards are based on a very old and classic Goodall design. Hidden Leaves Court Cards, also inspired by Goodall and a basis for Emanations Court Cards WHAT HAS BEEN WILL BE AGAIN Emanations is a subversive exploration on early magic. These playing cards are but part of the overall project. As I penetrate more deeply into my quest, I am compelled to share the treasures that I’ve uncovered. Wonders and secrets that have been discovered and lost countless times. Emanations is a study on magic. This pack allows you to perform magic and play card games the way they were more than 100 years ago. It is my personal belief, based on my knowledge and experience, that we have lost much more in magic through carelessness than we can ever dream of gaining through creativity. My goal with these playing cards is to elevate magic by reintroducing high quality tools to magicians worldwide. Emanations is my second deck of playing cards. This is a massive project and I love and dread every moment of all of this. I have put the best of my ability, my heart, and my soul into creating this deck.
