The French marigold “Harmony” (Tagetes patula) is an annual plant that reaches 15 – 40 cm in height. It forms regular, round pillows that are richly strewn with carmine-orange blooms that consist of velvety petals. They bloom from June to October. French marigold leaves excrete a distinctive aroma. These plants are mostly used on border and flower bed edgings and in containers. The plants secrete special substances into the ground that repel earth nematodes. Therefore we recommend to grow them among other plants, particularly vegetables. Seeds of the “Harmony” French marigold should be sown under covers or to an unheated hot bed at the beginning of April or in May directly to the permanent site. Seedlings may be transferred there in the second half of May. French marigold is an undemanding plant that is easy to cultivate and resistant to bad weather.
