Up For Bid: 1 LP THE aniMaLS MGM E 4264 MONO 1964 I bought this LP new in July 1968. Cover – Shrink on. Price tag on shrink, “089” written on price tag. No other writing, no cardboard splits. Corner bumps, a few perimeter bumps. The white of the cover is toning where the shrink pulled away. On the back cover, at the bottom right corner, is a large X impressed in the cardboard. I don’t see or feel it on the front. It is a cutout indicator which I’ve seen on MGM and Verve records. Adds to my thinking that this may have been unsold as a first release/pressing, then was stored a while before cutout dealers acquired it. I’ve had this 56 years and just noticed the spine has “THE ANINALS”. Vinyl – Some rubs, smudges, light marks. Nothing harms play. Sleeve – Clear plastic. Deadwax: Side 1: E4264 64 MG672 – 4 Side one 1 Tony Romeo 8/11/64 (Block S) Side 2: E4264 64 MG 673 SidE 2 Tony Rome 8/11/64 (Block S) Pressing Rings 32mm Vinyl weight 5 3/8oz, 152g Tony Romeo – MGM recording engineer 8/11/64 – dates on stampers First Album by one of the best of the British Invasion. This is a superb introduction to the hard hitting Animals. Probably pressed by MGM Record Manufacturing Division – having MG, Block S, 1(or part of a block T) in deadwax. Wikipedia says it was released in September 1964. The 8/11/64 could indicate it’s an original pressing. The LP back gives us all the personal info we could want about the band members, from where educated to favorite colour, to favorite actors, to … . A Discogs entry shows a back cover with small pix of the Animals. I don’t know how two different versions came about. I have no idea if THE ANINALS on the spine is a cover variation or universal.
