Florida Beauty and Silver Satin Pictus are evergreen plants, the variegated beauty of which deserves the attention of lovers of spectacular and unpretentious indoor plants. They are quite unique houseplants, which can grab the attention by their gorgeous view. Growing conditions for Florida Beauty: – lighting: Florida Beauty will feel fine with medium light, but actually it prefers bright indirect sunlight. Insufficient light negatively affects the number, color and contrast of spots on the leaves. – watering: as the moisture-loving plant, it requires daily and plentiful watering in the warm season. It is not allowed to keep the soil dry, but the stagnation of moisture is also fatal, as the roots can start to rot. The watering in winter should be reduced. – fertilizing: fertilizers must be applied every two weeks. Use the fertilizers for Florida Beauty which contain a minimum of chlorine and fluorine. All-purpose fertilizers for indoor plants can be used, but preferably it is applied specialized fertilizers for variegated plants. – nuances: Florida Beauty does not like extra humidity. Occasionally it requires mist, but it can moist the air in the room by itself. It feels comfortable at almost any air temperature, the main thing is that in summer it does not exceed 82°F, and in winter does not fall below 59°F. The repotting is carried out in the early spring for young plants annually, for adult plants – every 2-3 years, but annually the topsoil can be replaced. Growing conditions for Silver Satin Pictus: -lighting: it requires bright, indirect light all the year. Direct sunlight can burn its leaves, while low light can cause the leaves to lose their variegation. -watering: water the plant copious, but let top few inches of soil dry out between watering, because the thick structure of foliage can store water well. Use settled water of room temperature. Don’t overwater the plant because the leaves can lose its unique coloring and become yellow. -fertilizing: feed the plant monthly during growing season. -nuances: the humidity should be moderate, but if the air in the house too dry, it is important to mist the plant. The plant is intolerant for cold weather, so the temperature should be not less than 59°F. Ideal range of temperature for Silver Satin Pictus is from 65 to 85°F. Repot the plant in spring when the pot becomes too small for the plant, which can be obvious because of appearance of aerial roots outside the pot. Use the pot slightly bigger than previous one.
