FOUNTAINHEAD FLUORIDE/ARSENIC & CARBON/KDF- BACTERIOSTATIC HEAVY METAL FILTER If you are replacing the filters on your system, you can upgrade it with this simple addition. This is for the Dual Under Sink Filter System. If you want to remove FLUORIDE, use our Activated Alumina filter, followed by the Carbon/KDF55 bacteriostatic/ heavy metals/chlorine/VOC’s filters. These are standard sized 2.5X9.75 filters. Fluoride/Arsenic is not normally removed through the filtration process. It can be removed through reverse osmosis, this filter is designed to remove the fluoride through filtration using Activated Alumina. Activated alumina (AA) is the only filter material specifically designed to remove fluoride and arsenic from water. A ceramic compound made of aluminum oxide with a very high surface-area-to-weight ratio, AA has a very high capacity for fluoride adsorption. Most municipal water supplies add 2 ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. AA filters can reduce fluoride concentrations to below .1 ppm, or down to 99% of the normal fluoridated water level. If you are concerned about these contaminants in your water supply, this is the ideal low cost system for you. Carbon is a substance that has a long history of being used to absorb impurities and is perhaps the most powerful absorbent known to man. One pound of carbon contains a surface area of roughly 125 acres and can absorb literally thousands of different chemicals. Activated carbon which has a slight electro-positive charge added to it, making it even more attractive to chemicals and impurities, and gives it a bacteriostatic quality. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface, the negative ions of the of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules. When combined with KDF, the effectiveness of the carbon’s life is extended. KDF works by the redox (oxidation reduction process) like this: KDF Fluid Treatment unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction that causes some heavy metals such as IRON, COPPER, LEAD, MERCURY and others to react and plate out the mediums surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply. Carbon also removes – Volatile organic chemicals, or VOCs, which are often toxic chemical compounds used industrially that may be present in water sources. A variety of fuels, solvents, coatings and refrigerants are volatile organic chemicals. Activated charcoal effectively traps and absorbs many different VOCs. Chlorine – No other filter removes chlorine and its accompanying odor and flavor as well as an activated charcoal filter. Most municipal water sources are treated at one or more stages with chlorine to kill bacteria. Pesticides – The Environmental Protection Agency lists activated charcoal filters as the only way to reduce pesticide quantities in drinking water. Many different pesticides used today are leached into our water sources and cause contamination. The carbon ensures a sparkling, pure water taste.
