We have had this great little nutcracker for many years. I believe I bought it in England on a buying trip in the 80’s and it has been sitting on our mantel every since. It is typical for that period: a combination of casting, turning and engraving. It’s central shafts are ring turned and the part of the piece that actually does the cracking is engraved with florets. The hinge is secured with a steel pin and the nut cracking surfaces have spurs for holding the nut in place. This nutcracker is designed for almonds, filberts, hazelnuts, etc. but is a bit to small for walnuts. The nutcracker dates to the 18th c. and was probably made in Birmingham, England The overall length if the piece is 4 1/4″. It is in great working order and has no notable damage.
