Fresh seeds. Store seeds warm (room temp or a little warmer) over the Summer and sow in Fall (end Aug/Sept) when temperatures start dropping. Do not sow in warm weather – seeds will not germinate in high temperatures. Sow the seeds on the surface or shallowly covered in a well draining soil, e.g. 50% potting mix + 50% perlite or crushed brick. Germination is optimal at cool temperatures (60 degrees during the day, 40-50 at night). Best time to sow is beginning of Fall. It usually takes 4-6 weeks for seedlings to show. Daubenya are winter active bulbs: leaves will appear in Fall and die off when temperatures rise in Spring. During the growing season, keep the plants in a cool and bright spot but frost free. Don’t let the soil dry out entirely during the growing season but avoid soggy conditions. When the leaves start to die towards the end of Spring, taper off and stop watering and keep the bulbs dry over the Summer.
