Corgi DG205005 Corgi 60th Anniversary Model Van 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the very first Corgi model, and to celebrate this special birthday we have produced a charming little van in a commemorative livery with special 60th Anniversary packaging. The van was produced as a gift for our retailers to mark the anniversary at this year’s trade shows, however we have a limited number available exclusively on the Corgi website – hence this is sure to become a collector’s item! Each limited edition model is supplied with a uniquely numbered certificate of authenticity. Corgi first appeared in the toy shops of Great Britain in 1956 as a new range of die-cast model cars from Mettoy Playcraft Ltd. These new toy cars were soon a huge hit and were famous at the time for their transparent plastic windows, soon becoming known as ‘the ones with windows’. In its first year of trading, Corgi sold 2.75 million cars, making it the clear leader of the British toy car industry. Corgi has won many awards, including ‘The Queen’s Award to Industry’ and the National Association of Toy Retailers Highest Standards Award in 1966, and more recently in January 2015, the James Bond DB5 was the winner of the Toy Fair Best New Toy Award in the Hobby category.
