Cattleya dowiana is a species of orchid that is native to Colombia and Costa Rica. It has large yellow flowers with a dark crimson-purple lip that has gold veining The most important rule is to grow this species is to let its roots dry quickly and are never subjected to a wet, soggy medium. C. dowiana should either be grown in clay pots that barely accommodate the plant and one new growth, or it is planted in hanging baskets.
