Light micro-scratching on gold trim and ebonite under magnification. The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, scratches, dings, dents, or repairs. The cap is a “screw-on type and is always securing tightly to the barrel. These Cartier fountain pens were made as a Limited Edition and this one is stamped with, “0840 of 1847”. The cap banding is marked in cursive, “LOUIS CARTIER” and the lower ring, when capped, is stamped with, “0840/1847 MADE IN FRANCE PLAQUE OR G”. The fountain pen measures 5 1/8″ capped and 6 3/4″ posted. It comes with outer box, red display box (C0418), folder, certificate, papers. Bought in Rome, Italy in January 2001 (the certificate is stamped accordingly) This beautiful writing instrument from Louis Cartier earlier Dandy editions, is fashioned from a high-quality dark brown/red ebonite with vermeil clip and trimmings. The ebonite features a unique grain pattern similar to that of wood. Adding to the sleek sophisticated design a dark cabochon is skillfully placed on the end of the pen.
