Asclepias latifolia is a herbaceous perennial in the Apocynaceae family. Its native range is in the central and western parts of the United States. The familiar name is Broadleaf Milkweed. In nature, it grows on rocky slopes, canyons, plains, prairies, grasslands, and along roadsides. It can grow to around 3 feet tall and 1-2 feet wide. The leaves are connected to the main stem and fall down creating these huge cabbage-like leaves. The flowers are in bloom from June through September. They are creamy-white and yellow and resemble corn kernels. It prefers to grow in full sun with little water needs. Butterflies are attracted to it. Zones 5-8 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-60 days.
