Augsburg Germany Glass Crystal Paperweight A beautiful etched glass paperweight featuring the Augsburg Coat of arms. Base is deeply scalloped giving a neat prism like effect. I’m not sure what this piece was made for, but a deep search led me to at least two other similar examples of this style paperweight from two different German cities. One, from Nuremburg, claiming that it is c.1900. The other, a purported presentation piece involving the 1946 British Zone of Occupation. Neither give a clear answer as to why this particular one was made or how old it is. At the very least, it is an old vintage piece. It is a gorgeous display piece and hefty piece of glass (possibly leaded crystal glass). It is very difficult to photograph, so I included several sets of photos with different backgrounds. It really needs a darker background for the etching to pop. There are some hairline scratches and fleabites, and there is a small bubble trapped inside the center of glass.
