A charming antique Staffordshire figure of a “dandy” couple showcasing the fashion trends of the time period from around 1810-1830. The male dandy sports a snug coat cinched at the waist with a high collared white shirt, cravat, and top hat while his companion has the typical large bonnet and raised ankle-revealing hemline of female dandies. Piece dates from 1810 – 1840 and is very similar to figures shown in Myrna Schkolne’s book Staffordshire Figures 1780-1840 Volume 3 on pages 254-255. In very good antique condition for its age with a minor loss to a bocage tip on the back, loss to one flower petal, a tiny glaze chip to the back of the lady’s hat, wear and paint loss to the couple’s noses and hat rims. 4″ tall x 3 3/4″ wide x 1 3/4″ deep. Provenance: acquired from the collection of famed Staffordshire figure collector and dealer Elinor Penna who founded the Staffordshire Figure Association and has had samples of her collection featured in major publications.
