I purchased these microphones from Dale Electronics 01/14/2014. I had been going through a 451 period and was buying a lot of the old 451’s, 452’s as well as their components, the pads and swivels etc. I recorded a lot of acoustic guitar back then and the 451 was really great at that. they really excelled at any higher frequency stringed instrument. Also cymbals, nice for that purpose. I had tried the new 451b’s at the time and while I had thought they were a great idea, they definitely did not sound like the vintage 451’s. I kinda felt they were a cheap generic 451 copy in a nice package bolstered by the legacy of the original 451. Disappointed to say the least. Then AKG released these 65th anniversary edition mics. I got ahold of a demo and did a critical listening comparison between a vintage C451, the C451b and the C451-65. the C451-65 sounded virtually identical to the Vintage C451. Whereas the C451b just sounded very different. So with the confirmation that the C451-65 was indeed a different animal than the C451b, I put in the order for 8 of them with Dale Electronics. After taking delivery, I opened one up to check it out. plugged it in, gave a listen then put it away. I never had an occasion to use them again. My career path kinda changed and I ended putting them all into storage. Not too long ago i had to re-pack some stuff and I took a second mic out of its outer box just so it would fit into the new place I had to keep them all. So here we are. I’m deciding to get rid of them as I don’t see myself doing any recording in the near (or far) term. These mics are all new (two of which are opened however), 6 of which are still in their original packaging, shrink wrapped and everything. The capsules are not removable like the vintage versions however. from AKG literature: AKG’s C451 65 th Anniversary Edition condenser embodies sound from the legendary C451 EB with the CK1 capsule delivering stunning quality and precision accuracy. Since its introduction in 1969, the C451 has been continuously improved and has demonstrated its durability under the harshest onstage environments. The C451’s transformer-less preamp enables high sound pressure capability, allowing for close miking of high-energy sound sources up to 155 dB SPL without distortion. look in pictures for specs
