The unit powers up, and loads a tape, it will play a tape in the forward mode and in reverse direction, both play modes are functional, wear parts however, such as the tape pinch rollers may need replacement or checked to verify they and other items are still in spec or may need some adjustments. So with that in mind we are selling this unit as a parts unit “AS IS” with no guarantees or warranties implied, or a unit that need to be serviced by a qualified technician, to be a fully operational unit or used as a parts unit. This sale is for a nice classic Akai GX-77 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder unit. The glass tape heads seem to be in great shape. The brief bit of testing we could do consisted of checking for functionality & playback – The buttons, and playback lights are as described above. The top and bottom metal panels are in good shape, except for dent in the top l.h. cover (see picture, it does not affect functionality.) The faceplate has a few nicks and scratches . Otherwise the unit is in pretty good condition for something that is 40 plus years old 🙂 Please take a close look at all the actual pictures of this unit. This is one of the better compact units that don’t require the space that other Reel to Reel units do. Please also note that the reels ( 7” ) reels are for display only and not included in this sale.
