An original etching by the French 19th century Barbizon School artist Adolphe-Louis Hervier (1818-1879). It depicts a mastless fishing boat on a shore with windmills in the background. It seems to be an early state proof, the finished work has a great deal of surface toning and roulette work and can be viewed in the British Museum collection: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1925-1013-3 The etching is printed on ivory colored wove paper and the image measures 5 x 6 1/2 inches, sheet size is 6 3/4 x 8 1/8. It is signed in the plate with Hervier’s monogram and marked by the master printer, Auguste Delatre, in the lower right corner. The paper has very mild age toning and some grime on the reverse, a flattened dog ear crease to the lower right margin, mostly evident on the reverse. This print is in the permanent collection of the British Museum, and the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire-Geneva. Adolphe-Louis Hervier (1818-1879) was a French painter and etcher. Hervier regularly painted in Barbizon and surroundings, he had contacts with Corot, Decamps and Jacque and made his debut at the Salon in 1849.
