Really a New Kind of Lighting Altogether When we first turned on the LED, we had never seen a room light up the way it did. The light wrapped all around, revealing the space in a way we had never experienced. Finally, a Replacement for the Halogen Floor Lamp If you were around in the nineties, you might remember the halogen torchiere. They were extremely popular because they could light up an entire room without being too harsh on the eyes. The original 300-watt halogen torchiere, which was pulled off the shelves in the mid-90s due to overheating, is now back—only better. The WindowLED is twice as bright and six times more efficient, all while producing less heat. Dim as a Nightlight to Bright as Windows In a typical living room, open windows during the day provide 10,000-25,000 lumens of natural light. Your overhead lights or lamps may only offer 800-8,000 lumens. The WindowLED covers the full range, from 10 lumens (nightlight level) to 12,000 lumens (daylight level), giving you total control. Note that recently, some lamps claim to exceed 10,000 lumens, but they divide light between direct and indirect lighting, making them incomparable to the WindowLED. Full Range Dimming Most lamps offer limited dimming options, typically low-medium-high. The WindowLED has stepless dimming, allowing you to smoothly adjust the light intensity to your liking. Ambient Lighting The WindowLED provides indirect, ambient lighting without glare. It’s perfect for replacing overhead lights or complementing your indoor lighting, both day and night. Warm Color Light Many LED lamps have a harsh white light (4500K+), but the WindowLED emits a comfortable 2700K warm light, like traditional incandescent bulbs, making it pleasant at any time of the day. While typical floor lamps cost around $70, the high-end components of the WindowLED raise the production cost to $225. But you’ll break even when you consider the lumens per dollar, and you may not need your overhead lights anymore, reducing wiring and maintenance costs. Our Story The LED Classic Torchiere was created by Nitin Gadia, with help from Steven Ourada and others at Ames MakerSpace in Ames, Iowa. We’ve been working on it since 2013 and have given prototypes to a few people, who now use them every day. With your support, this lamp will be assembled in Ames, Iowa. Note: Lamp body and dimmer may be different from what is shown This lamp is for those who understand lighting and how it affects them. The lamp body may be different than what is shown in the images and video. Our current version has two dimming knobs and a toggle switch between them. It shows as one knob in the video and images. The new improvement is a good idea, because it allows fine control over the lower levels, which are for night time – Otherwise it is hard to get it at the level you need.
