Also known as Agapanthus praecox ssp orientalis ‘Getty White’ This evergreen perennial has dense clusters of ivory white flowers on erect 36 cm ( 2 -3 foot ) stems that rise above the evergreen foliage. The plant forms large clumps of bulbs that eventually produce multiple stems of flowers, the leaves form a rosette approximately 30 cm (12 in) tall. Agapanthus bloom better in the sun, but the strap like foliage also looks great in the shade. They perform well in poor and rocky soil and bloom best when their root mass becomes crowded. Agapanthus is frost tolerant and can be grown outdoors in full-sun or light shade. It is hardy to around -4 to -7°C ( 20-25°F ), and should be protected with mulch when temperatures are below -4°C ( 20°F ) for extended periods. This is a lovely plant to grow, very easy to germinate from seed and not prone to damping off nor slug damage. USDA Hardiness Zone : 8 – 11 Full sun/light shade. Hummingbirds love agapanthus blooms!
