The title of Marquis is a rank of nobility, which is the perfect way to describe Mercury’s Flagship, the Grand Marquis. This one family car was bought in 1999 for $25,000 by a Naval Officer stationed in Seal Beach, CA who drove it only 48,000 miles. I bought it last year when he retired. The car is in excellent condition, but had the normal cosmetic wear for its age, so I went all out and spent about $16,000 upgrading its appearance and features. This car is already roadworthy and now it’s practically brand-new. To keep it fresh, I replaced the gas tank, and the pump and filter. It now has new seat upholstery and headliner, new Black Satin wrap that gives it a sleek Batmobile look. I even have a unique batman emblem for the new front grill, if the buyer wants. LED headlights, reconditioned OEM wheels and Michelins. Complete tune-up, new battery, new blend door actuator, JVC stereo, speakers, remote start, sun glare tint on all glass, a full-size tire in an enormous trunk, seat belts for 6, front and rear cameras with SD card, and custom kill-switch. A feature that’s special for the ’98-’02 series are the shapes of the grill, the headlights, and the chrome accent across the taillights. Those features are not as nice in earlier and in later models. Body-on-frame panther platforms are notoriously reliable. Its million-mile reputation is legendary. If this purchase is a second car, Hagarty will insure it for $200 a year with an agreed stated value of $15000 … yes, a year. The last of the great drivable cars on earth that’s affordable to insure, maintain, and cannot be hacked.
