This week I’m offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. Dixie Ice Cream had one of the longest-running and most successdful non-sports promotions in history. From 1933 to 1954, they offered photos of popular movie stars on the inside lids to their single serve cups of ice cream. In all but the final year, you could save up enough lids to send in and you’d get a large color photos, printed on heavy paper stock, of your favorite star. The premiums came with two holes pre-punched along the side (1935-1945) or along the top (1946-1953), so you could put them in a special album the company also offered. There were twenty four different actors available each year from 1933 to 1953, all but the first two years in color. It makes for quite a challenge to collect the complete set!! This photo is from 1943, and the premiums were produced that year were 8 x 10 in size. The backs of the premiums featured photos and write-ups of the actor’s recent and current movies. This one features popular actress Mary Martin; it’s in very nice shape with no obvious flaws (see scans for condition). Note that premiums issued during the wartime years of 1943 to 1945 are especially tough to find. This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping will be combined for multiple purchases.
