This tea set is a wonderful example of Japanese Lusterware, ca. 1940s. The set has 16 total pieces total: teapot and lid, sugarbowl and lid, cream pitcher, 5 teacups, 5 saucers, and 3 bread/dessert plates, The handpainted, stylized floral design sits on a peach background. A trio of flowers sits in a “bed” of silver leaves, veined and tipped in black. Gold painted handles and lid toppers. Teacups are paper thin; the other pieces are more substantial. Mark on bottom of every piece says Made in Japan, there is perhaps a small symbol. Cannot find any chips or cracks; there is grime on the bottom rims and on the inner surfaces of cups, teapot, sugar and creamer. Measurements: Teapot is 8-1/4″ x 6-5/8″ including lid; sugar is 6-1/4″ x 5-5/8″ including lid; creamer is 5″ x 3-1/2″; teacups are 4-3/8″ x 2-1/2″; saucers are 5-1/2″ x 7/8″; dessert plates are 7-3/8″ x 1”.
