Binder’s label of S. Curtis to the front paste down. Illustrated with a hand-coloured frontispiece, and seventy-two hand-coloured plates. Collated, complete. A charming work describing the many birds of the British Isles, with details of their characteristics and songs. Includes chapters on: thrushes including the blackbird; birds and streams including the wagtail; autumn birdsong including the robin redbreast; woodland birds; swallows, larks, sparrows, and much more. This work was written and illustrated by Anne Pratt (1806-1893), an English botanical and ornithological illustrator and author. CONDITION In the publisher’s original cloth binding. Externally sound, with shelf wear to the extremities, more so to the head and tail of the spine. Cloth splitting to the head of the front joint. Small marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Small closed tear to page 103, not affecting the text.
